What Muscles Are Worked On A Cross Trainer? Find Out Here!

download (1)If you are new to using a cross trainer, then it is unlikely that you will be aware of all of the benefits of elliptical machines. There are actually many. Here are just a couple of examples to give you a better idea:

  • They Are Easy On Joints – Many types of workout machines are especially hard on the joints, particularly the treadmill. Unfortunately, this can make it difficult to keep fit because you don’t want to run the risk of sustaining an injury. With a cross trainer, you don’t have to worry about this because they are particularly easy on the joints so even if you have an existing joint condition then you can still use one.
  • They Are Suitable for Everyone – The problem that we face with a lot of workout machines is that they are not all suitable for everyone. For example, if you are especially unfit, then you might find it difficult to use something like a treadmill. This can make getting fit really difficult. One of the biggest cross trainer benefits is that you are able to use them with ease regardless of your fitness level.
  • You Can Vary the Intensity Drastically – Another advantage that comes with using a cross trainer is that you are able to benefit from the ability to vary the intensity of your workout drastically. You can adjust the incline, resistance and the stride length with some machines, meaning that you are able to really push yourself.

One of the questions that a lot of people seem to have about cross trainers is what muscles they actually work. If you have looked into the benefits of elliptical cross trainers before, then you are probably aware of the fact that they work multiple muscle groups each time you workout. Here are a couple of examples of some of the muscles that are worked with a cross trainer.

Shoulders, Chest & Back

downloadOne thing that a lot of people seem to forget about with the cross trainer is that it doesn’t only work the lower body; it works the upper body too. By using the handlebars, especially if you are mimicking the movement of running, you are able to work your shoulders, chest and back. At a high resistance level this can be an especially intense workout and a great way of toning these areas.

Triceps & Biceps

In the same way that you can work your shoulders, chest and back, you are also able to work your triceps and biceps by using a cross trainer. If you want to tone more then you can either increase the resistance level of your machine or you can add resistance bands if your cross trainer has an option to do so. At the same time as working your upper body, you will be working your lower body too.

Gluteus Maximus

One of the problems that a lot of people seem to have is toning their buttocks. Many people will think that they have to do multiple squats every day to get the results that they want, but this is not the case. You can actually use the cross trainer to tone the gluteus maximus and at high intensity levels it is particularly effective.

Quads & Hamstrings

If you want to lose weight from your legs and tone your muscles then a cross trainer is absolutely the right machine for you. By performing high intensity workouts with your cross trainer, especially climbing, you are able to tone both your quads and hamstrings. Again, you will be able to work other muscle groups at the same time so you get even more benefits.

Calves & Achilles

This is especially useful if you are recovering from an injury. A lot of people actually struggle with weakness in their Achilles, so strengthening them is a brilliant idea. An elliptical cross trainer is one of the easiest ways that you can do this. As well as this there is the added benefit that cross trainers are particularly easy on the joints so you don’t run the risk of sustaining any further injuries as you are working on your strength.

As you can see, all of the major muscle groups are worked whenever you work out with a cross trainer and it is this that makes this versatile machine such a brilliant investment.
